Naxos 30 år!

Vi fyller visserligen 30. Men i vår serie Naxos Historical återfinns legendariska inspelningar som är betydligt äldre än så.

Vi inleder detta vårt jubileumsår med att presentera 30 historiska titlar för endast 30 kronor styck (60 kr för dubbel-cd), med storheter som Maria Callas, Jussi Björling och Glenn Gould.

NEW ON NAXOS

This month’s spotlight is on Henning Kraggerud’s recording of the newly rediscovered violin concerto by Johan Halvorsen, paired with another concerto by Carl Nielsen and Johan Svendsen’s Romance. This album also features renowned Norwegian conductor Bjarte Engeset leading the Malmö Symphony Orchestra.

Other highlights include:
• Flute Concertos, Vol. 2 with Patrick Gallois, Flute and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

• The second of two recordings of Brahms’ piano quartets, this time featuring his Second Piano Quartet in A major, Op. 26 plus Mahler’s Piano Quartet in A minor, performed by pianist Eldar Nebolsin, violinist Anton Barakhovsky, violist Alexander Zemtsov, and cellist Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt.

• Antoni Wit and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra’s newest recording of ballet works by Polish composer Stanislaw Moniuszko. This album includes excerpts from Hrabina, Halka, and The Haunted Manor.

The International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) are music awards first awarded April 6, 2011 which replace the Cannes Classical Awards and Midem Classical Music Awards. The Awards recognise creativity, imagination in choice of repertoire and artistic excellence (www.icma-info.com)

NEW ON NAXOS

This January, we kick off Naxos’ 30th anniversary with a spotlight on two new recordings from two Naxos artists. Renowned conductor Marin Alsop leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in a new recording of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonies Nos. 1 ‘Jeremiah’ and 2 ‘The Age of Anxiety’. Award-winning artists, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano and star-pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, also feature on the album. Rising star pianist Boris Giltburg, joined by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko, presents his fourth album on Naxos, this time tackling Dmitry Shostakovich’s two piano concertos, plus exciting arrangements by Giltburg himself for solo piano of Shostakovich’s String Quartets Nos. 2 and 8.

NEW ON NAXOS

This month’s spotlight belongs to Mayr specialist Franz Hauk and his forces from the Simon Mayr Choir, Concerto de Bassus, and members of the Bavarian State Opera Chorus, in a recording of Gaetano Donizetti’s and Simon Mayr’s Messa di Gloria and Credo in D. Sopranos Siri Karoline Thornhill and Marie-Sophie Pollak, mezzo-soprano Marie-Sande Papenmeyer, tenor Mark Adler and bass Martin Berner complete the bill.

Other highlights include:
• Boris Tishchenko’s – popular as one of Shostakovich’s students – orchestral works, including his Eighth Symphony, the Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra, and Three Songs to Poems of Marina Tsvetayeva. Yuri Serov conducts the St Petersburg State Symphony, with mezzo-soprano Mila Shkirtil, violinist Chingiz Osmanov, and pianist Nikolai Mazhara.

• The fifth instalment of the Cimarosa Overtures Series, featuring the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice and conductor Patrick Gallois.
