Image 71CD-BOX: The Complete Cantatas
Gächinger Kantorei, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Helmuth Rilling and others

At the center of Bach's amazing output stand the more than 200 surviving cantatas. While these works are rightly regarded as timeless masterpieces, the majority were performed only once or twice. Bach's church cantatas were composed during just 20 years - beginning with Cantata 150 written ca. 1705 in Arnstadt and concluding with the second surviving cycle of cantatas for the entire church year complete in Leipzig in 1725. Despite the utilitarian nature of these works, Bach lavished each score with the full measure of his genius. At the other end of Bach's creative output is his handful of surviving secular cantatas. Beginning with the beloved "Hunt" Cantata BWV 208 in 1717, Bach wrote the majority of his secular cantatas for performance by the gifted university students of the Leipzig Collegium musicum. These occasional works were composed both to provide pageantry for royal celebrations as well as for popular entertainment at Zimmermann's Coffee-House. As with his church cantatas, his secular scores brim with genius and colorful orchestrations.

Hänssler CLASSIC here present Helmuth Rilling's landmark recording of the complete Bach Cantatas in a new, specially-price collector's edition. Rilling was the first conductor to ever record the complete Bach cantatas and still, 25 years after they were first released in celebration of the Bach tercentennial in 1985, they remain the standard by which all other interpretations are judged.

Writing of Vol. 6 (CD 98.206) Piano News wrote: "From the first notes of both of these sonatas, one's attention is immediately focused: Oppitz approaches the opening of the "Waldstein" Sonata at exactly the correct speed and with the correct coloring: precise but not detached, passionate but always transparent, allowing the interplay of counterpoint to shine through effectively.
As for the "Appassionata" again Oppitz has correctly calculated his approach, focusing on the passionate outbursts and feelings of nervous energy and disruption. The runs - like a string of pearls; the chord - razor-sharp in their attack; a sense of foreboding underlying the rhythms and driving the melodic shapes. And so, Beethoven's cosmos continues to unfold."

Image 11CD-BOX: Complete Orchestral Works (The)
Following on from their reissues taken from Helmut Rilling’s Complete Works of Bach, this 11-CD set takes the Complete Orchestral Works and packages them in a slimline style box set for the first time.

Apart from the famous Brandenburg Concertos and the concertos, this box set also includes reconstructions of works originally intended for other solo instruments, all of which are discussed in the extensive booklet essay on the possibilities and limits of musical reconstruction.

The musicians performing on this interesting set include early recordings from violinists Isabelle Faust and Christoph Poppen, plus the Oregan Bach Festival Orchestra and of course maestro Helmuth Rilling conducting the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart.

Released as part of Herr Rilling’s 80th birthday celebrations.

Image 26CD-BOX: The Complete Piano Works
Throughout Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's works for the piano, one cannot help but appreciate his craftsmanship, his complete mastery of composition and his daring and joyful spirit. His style is extremely diverse and original; on one side, he extends elements of the Baroque style further, but at the same time, he moves boldly into the future. It is known that Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven diligently studied his music and were inspired by its inventiveness, harmonic finesse, the unorthodox contrapuntal elegance and richness of surprises.
This is a unique publication in commemoration of the Carl Philipp Bach Year and is the best opportunity to meet the multi-faceted CPE Bach. Pianist Ana-Marija Markovina has been playing the works of the Master for over ten years and is now thoroughly versed in his style. One of the most exciting aspects of this important project is Mrs.Markovina's choice of playing on a modern Concert Grand (Bösendorfer) - an instrument that is truly able to realize all of the subtle dynamic shadings and exquisite delicacies of these extraordinary works. A truly impressive interpretation and an extraordinary accomplishment!
