Image Le Comte Ory (DVD)
Summoned to Paris in 1824 to breathe new life into its opera culture, Rossini created an entirely new genre of opera comedy. The risque tale of Le comte Ory had its origins in vaudeville theatre and is based on the story of a villainous Count who attempts the seduction of Countess Adele as she awaits the return of her husband from the crusades. Le comte Ory is the last of Rossini’s comic operas, making full use of the libretto’s farcical disguises and humour in one of his most colourfully orchestrated scores. DVD 9 • NTSC 16:9 • Sound: PCM stereo • Region code 0 (Worldwide) • Language: French • Subtitles: French, English, German, Japanese, Korean

Image And So it Goes - Songs of Folk and Lore
‘I guess any programme in concert or on CD is a brief snapshot of some of the conductor’s favourite pieces. In the extensive realm of folk songs, it is difficult to say these here are my top '20'. However, my particular focus was to select mainly Canadian arrangements, as our country had just celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary, then 'club sandwich' them between popular songs from other countries. Finally, and maybe the odd choice, Billy Joel's ...'And so it goes'. This American classic has always touched me personally, and as folk songs go, I thought… and so it goes.’ [Noel Edison]
