Caron, Elise - A thin sea of flesh: Dylan Thomas poems
I discovered Dylan Thomas through the funeral song Stravinsky composed in his memory using the poem entitled 'Do not go gentle into that good night'. At the time I was looking for texts to set to music and this work helped me to delve into the texts of this poet who I really didn't understand properly, but his writing lent itself so well to being used with music. When I discovered the translations some time later I was intrigued and delighted by the absence of any reference to a definite era or civilisation: out of the twelve texts I selected for this album, and with the exception of 'Paper and sticks' (that Dylan Thomas wanted to exclude from his complete works because of its realistic tone), 'The hunchback in the park' (a childhood memory) and 'The tombstone told when she died (inspired by a short news item) everything was in fact about the origins of the universe, human destiny, the transformations and gestation of man and the Earth, the violent break between the subject and his social environment, the violence of sexual impulses, or immortality.
