Musica Vitae, with fifteen members, is one of Sweden's best-reputed chamber orchestras with a repertoire of classical as well as contemporary art music. On this release Musica Vitae plays music by Allan Pettersson: from The Barefoot Songs and Concertos for String Orchestra Nos. 1 and 2. The solo singer is Olle Persson and the ensembleae is conducted by Petter Sundkvist - head conductor of the ensemble.
Allan Pettersson, an eccentric personality in Swedish musical life, wrote sixteen symphonies, three string concertos (two of which are included on this record), a viola concerto (the viola was his "own" instrument before he quit playing in the orchestra and devoted himself to composing), two collections of songs and a number of chamber music works. Some of these works are released on the Caprice label. The Barefoot Songs were composed in the early 1940s and are a central part of Pettersson's oeuvre.
Olle Persson, well-known from a number of Caprice recordings, is one of the most sought-after Swedish singers in his field. His versatility and theatrical talent make him a frequent guest in different contexts, on radio and TV, recordings and as a guest soloist in great demand at the Folk Opera in Stockholm. He has also participated in productions at the Malmö Opera, the Gothenburg Opera, the Drottningholm Palace Theater and the Royal Opera in Stockholm.
Many internationally renowned soloists and conductors - Swedish as well as foreign - have been guests of Musica Vitae, which is also heard and seen regularly on radio and TV. The ensemble goes on tours, which provides many contacts that stimulate and inspire. They play frequently in southern Sweden and in the larger concert halls throughout the country. The ensemble has played at many music festivals and has had guest performances abroad, in Portugal, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, China and the US.
