Topi Lehtipuu Born in Australia of Finnish parents, Topi Lehtipuu studied at the Sibelius Academy and made his debuts in Helsinki, at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées before taking up residence in Paris. Appointed Music Director of the Turku Music Festival from 2010 to 2013, he is mainly sought after for his fine interpretations of contemporary and early music, as well as the major Mozart tenor roles. He often sings under the batons of Ivor Bolton, Emmanuelle Haïm, René Jacobs, Paul McCreesh, Riccardo Muti, Christophe Rousset, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jean-Christophe Spinosi, and has worked with such directors as Christopher Alden, Claus Guth, Dominique Hervieu, Nicholas Hytner, Yannis Kokkos, Christof Loy, José Montalvo, Laurent Pelly, and Peter Sellars. In addition to Japan and the USA, he has appeared all over Europe at the principal venues of Berlin, Brussels, Helsinki, London, Paris, Salzburg, Madrid, Salzburg, and Vienna. Alongside concerts and recordings, his operatic projects until 2012 include La finta giardiniera at the Theater an der Wien and Così fan tutte at the Wiener Staatsoper, Tom Rakewell/The Rake's Progress and David/Die Meistersinger at Glyndebourne, Don Giovanni in San Francisco, and Die Zauberflöte in Paris and Nice. Among his CDs and DVDs are Così fan tutte (Glyndebourne), Les Paladins (Châtelet); Combattimenti (Haïm; Ciofi, Villazón - Virgin Classics), La fida ninfa (Spinosi - Naïve), and Lamenti (Virgin Classics; voted Best Recording of 2009 at the Victoires de la Musique Classique).
