The "Christina's Journey" project was initiated several years ago by the soprano Susanne Rydén and now there is both a performance and an album with most of the music from the performance. The point of departure is the colorful music, rich in contrast, which surrounded Christina during her year as queen of Sweden and during the years of exile in Rome.
Much of the work on this ambitious project has been spent on research, studying the music, diary entries, correspondence etc. ... The end result was a performance reflecting the lively and modern cultural personality that Christina was and an album of the highest musical quality with Susanne Rydén and the Stockholm Baroque Ensemble.
The music is by Marco Marazzoli (c. 1602-62), Sinfonia e Prologo "L'Aurora" (from the opera "La Vita Humana"), Luigi Rossi (1597-1653) Cantata per Gustavo Adolpho, Vincenzo Albrici (1631-96) Sinfonia à 2, five different pieces from Alessandro Cecconi's collection, Marc Antonio Cesti (1623-69) from the opera "L'Argia", Alessandro Stradella (1639-82) from "La Forza delle Stelle", and from "Il duello" or "La Serenata".
