It is not a coincidence that all four works on the CD at hand already in their titles reflect Jewish religion, tradition and culture. Ernst Bloch was the son of a Genevan clockmaker. In 1916, he emigrated to the United States and became one of America's most renowned composers. During his entire life, he represented and was bound to the Jewish Culture. Leading a life without scandals, he did not choose New York, Chicago or Los Angeles as a residence, but preferred Portland, Oregon. His music is amiably unostentatious, and, during his whole life, he stuck to the once-adopted musical language of the Late Romanticism. With his works, soloists like Christiane Oelze, Antje Weithaas and Tabea Zimmermann have the possilility to outdo themselves, especially in proving their musical empathy.
