Folkmusik i Frack II
"Folk music in Tails 2"
Junekvintetten and Friends
From the booklet :
Ten years ago we, the June Quartet, Junekvartetten, released a CD entitled "Folkmusik i Frack" "Folk music in Tails". To our delight, it sold very well. Since then we have grown to include a double bass, and our name has thus been changed to the June Quintet, Junekvintetten. This is our latest recording, for which we have explored new material, primarily in Sweden but also to some extent in Norway. The arrangements on this recording were made by friends of ours, most of whom come from the part of Sweden from which we hail:. The towns of Jönköping and Huskvarna in the province of Småland.
We approach folk melodies with deference and respect, in an effort to access the soul of folk music using many different voices. It is our aspiration to demonstrate the wealth of variation with which folk music can be played and sung.
This disc contains both music dressed in evening garb, and melodies where we have rolled up our shirtsleeves and loosened our bow ties. Sometimes you can even hear the influence of rock. Our playing is based on our own feelings, so the melodies may sound both faster and slower than the listener is accustomed to hearing them. We hope that you will enjoy the music, and should you feel the urge to dance to the sounds of the June Quintet, come on up and join us!
Mart Hallek is the driving force behind "Folk music Tails". He was born and bred in the town of Rättvik in the province of Dalacarlia, and professionally he has one foot in the world of classical music and the other in the world of folk. Mart has been working with groups including the regional music and drama ensemble "Smålands Musik och Teater" since 1982, always contributing his love of folk music to his efforts. Thus we have Mart to thank for making folk music a natural part of the artistic programme of "Smålands Musik och Teater".
The June Quintet: Mart Hallek, violin, Jacob de Verdier, violin, Nils Sjöberg, viola, Håkan Molander, cello, Anders Gerhardsson, double bass. The members of the June Quintet are all employed by "Smålands Musik och Teater" as well as being members of the Jönköping Sinfonietta.
