Roald Dahl's stories have established him as one of the world's greatest children's writers, and his books (complete with Quentin Blake's highly original illustrations) remain firm favourites across generations of kids. Here the LPO have recorded settings of two of Dahl's best-known works, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs, with narration by the popular BBC TV children's presenter Chris Jarvis (CBeebies). Composer Paul Patterson here demonstrates an unusual lightness of touch and sensitivity in his interpretation of these children’s classics. Patterson's setting of Little Red Riding Hood illustrates the classic tale, with themes identifying the characters and the action, in the tradition of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.
The classic animated film The Snowman, a magical adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ picture book, is adored by children and adults alike and has become a firm fixture of the festive season, both on TV and with the stage show at London’s Peacock Theatre, which has been running for 12 years. It’s instantly recognisable the world over, in particular the theme song 'Walking in the Air' which has been a hit single several times, here in a fantastic new interpretation.
Celebrated children’s television presenter Chris Jarvis currently hosts Britain’s flagship children’s show CBeebies. Chris is in his element with CBeebies, bringing tales to life with his character voices and impressions. He is the host of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Funharmonic Family Concerts at the Royal Festival Hall. Chris is also a trained singer and musician, composing and recording music for CBeebies, and has written and appeared in several pantomimes, including Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella, and Aladdin.
