Sounds, sound and emotion, are the constructive elements of this discographic opus. Whether in acousmatic music, sound treatment or concrete music, the approach of these researchers is more hands-on than scientific. Their sounds are more forged than treated, the better to twist them, to mould them, like alloys in formation. Goldsmiths in sound, they chisel raw materials, numerically for one, analogically for the other. Two collaborative schools concurring in a common approach, composition in real time, in situ, based on the intuition of the moment. Listening to the result, one is more tempted to describe them as visionaries, so evident seems this fusion of sound materials, this sense of the collage… Composer and improviser, Xavier Garcia has produced around thirty electro-acoustic creations at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, at the Groupe des Musiques Vivantes in Lyons and in his own studio. A member of the ARFI since 1987, he has performed sound sampling and sound treatment in collaboration with musicians like Brian Eno, Heiner Goebbels, Chris Cutler or Lorenzo Recio… For Signature/Radio France, he conceived three recordings: “Virtual Meeting”, “Real Meeting” and “Radiorama”. Lionel Marchetti is a composer of acousmatic and concrete music & an experimental improviser with diverse electronic instruments. His musical compositions are considered as cinema for the ears… “Concrete or abstract? I like the abstract to have a lingering memory of substance, the concrete to be fine-tuning itself on the fringes of nothingness.” (K.White)
