Markus Leoson was the winner of the Soloist Prize in 1995 (his debut album, "Percussion", released on the Caprice label, was a part of the prize) and won a number of international music competitions after that. He was the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation P2's Artist-in-Residence during the years 1996 and 1997, which meant numerous concerts and radio recordings (two of them, the works by Eyser and Milhaud, are included on this album).
Markus Leoson was employed at the age of 19 as a percussionist in the Royal Opera Orchestra in Stockholm and later became a solo timpanist there. He is today an internationally sought after percussion soloist, but is also active as a teacher and often gives master classes at different music conservatories and festivals. Markus has a broad repertoire and throughout the years he has worked closely together with many Swedish and foreign composers who have written solo works and percussion concertos expressly for him.
On this album, titled "Malletiana", there are works by pianist/composer Niklas Sivelöv, Philippe Manoury, Alfred Fissinger, Eberhard Eyser, Pietro Rigacci and Darius Milhaud, as well as a work by Markus himself, Ex Machina.
