Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain is a French orchestra specialized in this field, conducted by Daniel Kawka, a conductor that created almost 400 works of contemporary music.

The recording includes the world premiere recording of the latest version of Dérive 2, an outstandingly difficult piece > "All three works belong to the later output of their composer, dating from after the opening of IRCAM (1976); all three call for modest chamber forces, without electronic extensions (except Mémoriale which exists in two versions, with or without technology); all three are conceived as continuations of works in progress; all three work with compositional techniques derived from canon and heterophony; and, finally, all three are dedicated to people close to the composer."
