On the Edge of a Perfect Moment
It’s not always true that the encounter between two different cultures has to generate a winner and a loser. They might blend creating an incredible alchemy. This is what happened when the pianist and composer Rita Marcotulli and the well-known English saxophonist Andy Sheppard knew each other. Though belonging to different cultures the two musicians have always met on the same level as for artistic sensibility, feeling, and the excellent musicality they’re both able to obtain from their instruments.
They have met thanks to their mutual interest in Truffaut’s cinema and have strengthen their professional activity when Andy participated to the recording of Rita’s “Koinè”; their artistic partnership was then confirmed by a calendar crammed with duo live concerts, all over Europe, at the end of which they met again to carry out and give body to a new record. This led to the birth of “On The Edge Of A Perfect Moment”, released by the end of 2006, in which the two artists alternate new compositions with few remaking of well known pieces, going so far as to measure themselves with the “US And Them” Pink Floyd’s pentagram, forming and stating a kind of music which never sees them in competition. There are no winners no losers. There is only a limbo, where music lightly floats.
