This is a recording of an unusual concert held in May 1999 at the Warsaw Grand Theatre to celebrate the Chopin Year. The star was the great Martha Argerich, one of the most prominent artists of this century. The audience heard a thrilling interpretation of two romantic concertos, by Liszt and Chopin. Both works - full of passion and virtuosity - perfectly match Argerich's temperament. "In the solo parts and in the dialogues with the orchestra the artist gets to the heart of the Romantic concert. She feels absolutely in her element here. On stage she seems a player from the past era, performing in the presence of great Romantic composers with their full approval and admiration. Listening to her interpretations, one thinks of the living author, his character, temper, moods. One almost feels their presence. Only Romantic music can do such magic (...)".
