"[Suk's] piano music is some of the most attractive in the whole of Czech music... Lauriala has a quick gift for characterisation, whether with the 'Capricietto' or the longer lyrical lines of the 'Song of Love', both from Op. 7. He also has a good ear for the sometimes subtle forms which underly Suk's invention and which lend them strength. About Mother ('O matince') is the sequence of five pieces in which Suk mourned the death of his young wife Otylka, Dvorak's daughter, with some musical memories for their son. Lauriala handles well the affecting piece in which the insistent, halting throb reflects the fragile beat of Otylka's heart, and plays the final 'Memories' simply and touchingly."
