Mozart and Nielsen, piano and winds - two great composers, seemingly incompatible, who nevertheless prove to have a lot in common. Mozart was Nielsen's household god. Mozart, the pianist, not only wrote the most brilliant piano sonatas of his time, he also combined the piano and wind instruments in an entirely unique way. His original wind music inspired Nielsen to compose an exquisite quintet for winds - the first of its kind in Scandinavia. That is the music that the Amadé Quintet and the pianist Terés Löf revives on this album.
The Amadé Quintet consists of five wind players, all leaders of their instrument group in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra: Susanne Hörberg, flute; Bengt Rosengren, oboe; Niklas Andersson, clarinet; Henrik Blixt, bassoon; and Hans Larsson, French horn. Their concert debut took place in 2003 and one of the reasons for the formation of the quintet was that they wanted to revive the fantastic repertoire for winds.
