"Sound Masks" is part of the Swedish-Lithuanian collaboration "Sweden-Lithuania Musical Links" and consists of electro acoustic music by the young Lithuanian composer Vytautas V. Jurgutis.
He is one of Lithuania's many exciting composers of today, and has in spite of his youth (born 1976) already written among other things orchestral, chamber, and choral music. His primary area of composition is however electronic music. The works on "Sound Masks" were written from 2001-2002, and Jurgutis has been forced to be his own teacher, since there is no Lithuanian tradition to fall back on within the realm of electro acoustic music.
The album can be played on an ordinary CD player with either 16 or 24 bits resolution. But it is on a home theatre system with a DVD player that can read 5.1 SACD that the CD really comes into its own! Then, one can for the first time actually hear how the sound moves across one's living room, which was earlier something one could only experience in halls that had PA systems with several channels and speakers placed around the room. This is exciting music with original dynamics involving frequencies higher than 15 kHz-so this is also a great opportunity for those interested in hi-fi to test their systems thoroughly!
