The Symphonie fantastique and Harold in Italy are the major works in the history of program music. Everything is dramatic with Berlioz: the themes are characters, the orchestra is a scenic space, the musicians become actors.
A traditional filming reproduces the perspective of an audience in its seat armed with opera glasses. This film shows just the opposite: the spectator is placed in the orchestra among the musicians and in front of the conductor. We thus have the perspective of the musicians and the emotions they live with Christoph Eschenbach. The film is a recording of an exceptional concert and the audiovisual extension of this event. The image of the film director Andy Sommer thus gives the TV viewer a vision, a "reverse shot" which a conventional audience cannot enjoy. He will have the spectacular impression of being in the very midst of this always surprising score.
