GRAMOPHONE EDITOR'S CHOICE "Those who scoff that few modern composers can equal the populist appeal of their predecessors should have a listen to this disc. The music of Finnish composer Jouni Kaipainen has a power and an impact that should speak to all. Conductor Lintu and his Tampere Philharmonic find all the fire in the Third Symphony, all the surprise of the Bassoon Concerto."
(Gramophone)
Described by the Finnish press following the acclaimed world première as "energetic, intense, virtuoso, ecstatic, i.e. abundantly voluptous", the Third Symphony (1999-2004) is one of Kaipainen's major masterworks. Cast in three traditional movements, it alternates relentlessly energetic and softly meditative moments. Both the Symphony and the Bassoon Concerto exhibit the composer's classical and melodic style of the early 2000s.
