HANNU LINTU
Ondine is pleased to announce the second CD in their Enescu cycle with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of its former artistic director Hannu Lintu. This release features the Ouverture de concert sur des thèmes dans le caractère populaire roumain Op. 32 and the Symphony No. 3 Op. 21 (with the Tampere Philharmonic Choir).
George Enescu is Romania's most notable composer - and one of the most neglected composers of the 20th century. This release demonstrates a master of great orchestral colour and impressive imagination.
Artistic director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 till 2013, Hannu Lintu is a sought-after conductor and has an increasingly busy international career. From the season 2013/2014 onward he assumes the post of chief conductor of the Finnish RSO.
The collaboration between the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Hannu Lintu and Ondine has already produced releases of highest quality, among them lately the recording of Einojuhani Rautavaara's opera Kaivos, ODE 1174-2, awarded with a Grammy nomination - and a recording with works by young Finnish composer Uljas Pulkkis, ODE 1176-2, awarded with the Finnish Broadcasting Company's Disc of the Year 2011.
This release is the second of an Enescu cycle with Hannu Lintu. The third one - featuring Symphony No. 1 and the Sinfonia concertante - will follow 2014. The first release (ODE 1196-2), featuring Symphony No. 2 Op. 17 and the Chamber Symphony Op. 33, was highly praised by the critics and nominated for the Gramophone Awards 2013.
