• In 2007, Kurt Sanderling turns 95! This new 2 CD set is a fitting tribute to the conductor who was personal friends with Dmitri Shostakovich.
• Born in 1912, Sanderling made his debut as répétiteur at the Städtische Oper in Berlin where he worked from 1931 to 1933. he left Germany in 1936 and made his conducting début with the Moscow Radio in 1937.
• After working with such orchestras as the Kharkov and Leningrad Philharmonics, East Berlin Symphony and Dresden Staatskapelle and teaching at the Leningrad Conservatory, from 1977 Kurt Sanderling has been in great demand as a guest conductor all over the world.
• Kurt Sanderling has been responsible for numerous first performances of works by Siegfried Matthus, Ernst Hermann Meyer, Rudolf Wagner-Regeny and Dieter Zechlin. In 2002 he announced his retirement.
