The Seventh Symphony brought Bruckner to international attention, and has all the characteristic traits of a Bruckner symphony: expansive with spacious and colourful orchestral textures. In this majestic performance from a 1984 BBC recording Tennstedt draws on the committed forces of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and delivers a powerful and passionate
performance.
Tennstedt was prized for his interpretations of Mahler and Bruckner, and is without doubt one of the great Brucknerians of the 20th century. This recording comes from Tennstedt's early days a Principal Conductor and clearly shows the unique relationship that conductor and Orchestra shared.
Tennstedt made no other recordings of Bruckner 7, either live or in the studio, and this recording follows in the footsteps of the acclaimed LPO release in September 2006 of Bruckner’s Symphony No.4 (LPO-0014) which has quickly established itself at the top of the critics’ pile.
Praise for Tennstedt‘s Bruckner 4 (LPO-0014):
“... one of the greatest accounts of the work that I have heard. The LPO is on magnicent form throughout. Tennstedt’s love of every note transmits itself to the listener...”
