Bruckner, Anton - Symphony No. 7 - Norrington, Roger

As in all of his concerts and recordings with the SWR, Norrington has always approached his programs with a deep commitment to actualize the composer's true intentions. In the present recording, Norrington continues his successful Bruckner cycle. As before, Norrington is careful to assemble an orchestra as close to the size and sound of the orchestras which first performed these scores. Likewise, bowings, phrasing, articulation and the most up-to-date scholarly research as to performance practice and tempo has been observed.
Essential to Norrington's conception is the utilization of "pure tone" - essentially, discarding the use of vibrato as an embellishment alien to Bruckner's original sound-world.
A further intention of these recordings is to present Bruckner with a "human face" and not only as the "mystic symphonist" as he is often portrayed.
