"På nya albumet Wait till you see her visar han (John Abercrombie) sin klass än en gång. Hans sätt att till synes enkelt spela de mest intrikata melodislingor med en så behaglig ton imponerar. Utan vidare är Abercrombie bland de fem bästa på instrumentet just nu i genren."

John Abercrombie Quartet
John Abercrombie, guitar; Mark Feldman: violin; Thomas Morgan, double-bass; Joey Baron, drums

The Abercrombie Quartet has become one of the most widely-admired groups in contemporary jazz. It is both a deeply swinging group and an adventurous one - with a range that can encompass everything from standards to bebop to free play to chamber music or raga-esque excursions. The quartet extends the jazz tradition yet there is a consistent warmth and humanity to the sound, always evident in the harmonic and melodic material that John writes for the group. Other guitarists are quick to praise him: Jim Hall: "John is unique and allows himself to grow and change constantly...I love his playing because it constantly surprises me." John Scofield: "Anybody who's got ears can hear the beautiful integrity of his improvisations, and how incredibly well he plays the electric guitar. Right now he's playing better than he ever has." The quartet has been the primary focus of Abercrombie's work for a decade, and the associations with Mark Feldman and Joey Baron go back much further. "Wait Till You See Her" is the fourth disc from the band. It follows "Cat 'n' Mouse" (2000), "Class Trip" (2003) and "The Third Quartet" (2006), all of them highly praised by international critics. "Wait Till You See Her" was recorded in New York's Avatar Studios in December 2008, with Manfred Eicher producing. The disc features seven new Abercrombie compositions, plus the tender and romantic title track, a Rodgers and Hart tune originally penned for the 1942 musical, "By Jupiter". Interplay between Abercrombie, Feldman and Baron is given a different inflection this time around by the input of a remarkable young bass player, Thomas Morgan (28), whose resume already includes work with Steve Coleman, Paul Motian, Masubumi Kikuchi, and whose agility and deep, rooted musicality is exceptional.
