Duphly, Jacques / Mozart, W A - Works for Harpsichord & Violin - Cochard / Degand
Stephanie-Marie Degand, violin
Violaine Cochard, harpsichord
We are in 1756. Jacques Duphly, harpsichordist, composer, renowned teacher, published his third book of harpsichord pieces, containing six pieces for harpsichord and violin (the only written by Duphly for this training rooms). That same year was born in Salzburg Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. If these six pieces are definitely in the spirit of the gallant style, quite clearly different with that of the previous books. They express gravity and melancholy that say a lot about the life of its author. Sonata for violin and piano as it will be a little later, is an extraordinary combination: sometimes a Sonata for treble and bass where the Italian violin sings, and sometimes a Sonata for keyboard with the colorful ad libitum by the bowed string, sometimes again as a trio sonata where the violin is a real third "hand." We tried to overcome, in this recording, what could oppose the two composers when they write these works: their age (7 years, 41 years), their nationality, their personalities, their personal story ... and to identify the strength of privacy and a song whose expression ranges far beyond worldly pleasures.
